4th Combined Congress of the ASAMI-BR & ILLRS
August 28-30 2019, Dr. Mirzoyan participated in the 4th Combined Congress of the ASAMI-BR & ILLRS societies, hosted by the British Limb Reconstruction Society (BLRS) in Liverpool, UK.
Colleagues and experts from around the world joined the congress, where they had an opportunity to share their experience and exchange ideas in an environment designed to stimulate debate of scientific research.
Necessary agreement and cooperation were obtained, and pretty soon the Yerevan Center of Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction will begin applying fully implantable method to limbs lengthening.
Unforgettable Day in Van Ardy Boutique Winery
On May 21, our team and 6 patients from Japan, who underwent a limbs lengthening surgery up to 13cm, visited Van Ardi winery. It belongs to an Armenian family who runs boutique winery located in the ancient winemaking region of Aragatsotn, Armenia.
During the tour the guide told about the history of Armenian winemaking, their family history, how they take care of their vineyards and how they turn grapes to wine. As she mentioned, “It is a family project, and we just want to revive Armenian wine culture and remind everyone, that wine is a lifestyle.”
We all took pleasure in this interesting tour and enjoyed patio seating by tasting Van Ardi white, rose and red wines with food pairing.
One more patient from Japan
The pre-surgical clinical and radiological examination revealed varus (“O”-type) deformity of both legs. In the first stage he successfully underwent the following surgery: lengthening over the nail (LON) of the left femur for 6 cm and lengthening with varus correction of the right tibia for 6 cm and then nailing (LATN) method. In the second stage the same surgery will be performed on the contralateral tibia and femur.
Before discharging, he used to walk in the beautiful yard of the hospital.
On the photos, the patient is enjoying the fresh morning weather.
Mineral Hot Water of Arzakan
Our two patients from Hungary and Japan were taken to thermal spring water pool. With the help of physiotherapists the patients did physical exercises in the water, and it was great to see how easily they could walk and swim there.
Due to contaminated sulfur and other minerals, the Arzakan thermal spring water, located about 30 km near Yerevan, is well known as beneficial influence on skin and nervous system. The fun of hot springs was concluded with tasty lunch.
Entertainment of Our Patients
We regularly organize a lot of interesting tours around Yerevan and Armenia to reduce our foreign patients’ homesickness and psychological discomfort. We usually combine their physical activity with interesting entertainment. And this trip was not an exception either.
This time we took our patients (2 male patients from Japan, one female patient from Hungary) to Lake Sevan and Dilijan. The first stop was at Lake Sevan where we enjoyed beauty of the lake and tested local white fish.
Then we visited Dilijan, one of the most picturesque places in Armenia. Dilijan is known as “Little Armenian Switzerland”. We stopped at Dilijan Composers’ Village Retreat named after Composer Edward Mirzoyan.
The day was concluded by visit to the 13th-century Haghartsin Monastery.
Оur second patient from Poland
Last week we saw off our patient from Poland. His height was increased for 5 cm by LON method.
Here is his photo with Dr. Mirzoyan before and after the treatment:
At Yerevan Brandy Company
Last week we took a tour at the Yerevan Brandy Company. We have a patient from Poland who was very much interested in this trip. The guide told us about the old legendary history of brandy industry in Armenia. The patient enjoyed the smooth taste of 10 years old brandy and took a picture in front of the barrel of Polish president.
Thermal Springs in Arzakan; Another Event to Expedite the Healing Process & Make Our Patients Happy
This time we took 2 of our patients to the thermal springs in Arzakan. One is from the USA at the end of the first stage of the CLTFL for 10 cm; one – from Poland whose tibias are lengthened for 5 cm by LON method. By composition of minerals Arzakan are similar to the waters of Vichy in France and Borjomi in Georgia. Water temperature (47°C) hot springs of Arzakan is well known by its healing properties in diseases of the musculoskeletal system, skin, nervous disorders, and problems with the cardiovascular system.
