This was very special and one of the first international gatherings of orthopedic surgeons dedicated to the field of Limb lengthening surgery, named after legendary Professor G.A. Ilizarov. Among distinguished surgeons was one of Professor Ilizarov’s  pupils, Dr. Arshak Mirzoyan.
This was when we have met. Our group was an interesting one: all RUSSIAN speaking.
Professor Vladimir Shevtsov from Kurgan, the one who lead the Ilizarov Center in Kurgan, Professor Mikhael Samchukov and Marina Makarov, both formerly Ilizarov students and colleagues and these days leading scientists in Dallas,  Professor Alex Lerner from Israel, Dr. Alexey Artemiev from Moscow,  Dr. Alexander Kirienko from Italy and others. What united us all were methods developed by late Professor Ilizarov and our personal connection with a very special man who has changed the way we treat musculoskeletal pathology.
Arshak stood very high in this group. After his work in USA and Denmark he has returned to Armenia and started his world recognized center for cosmetic limb lengthening and reconstruction.  Not once I was approached by patients from all over the world asking my opinion where to go and be treated with specific reference to Dr. Arshak. Today Dr. Mirzoyan is one of the most experienced specialists in Ilizarov technique and aesthetic surgery of legs. I am not surprised and very glad that people from various countries get treatment at his Center.”
